L'un des premiers groupes de l'histoire du disco est né de la rencontre de Richard Finch et de Harry Wayne Casey sous les palmiers de Floride. Casey travaille pour un magasin de disques à Hialeh, et Finch officie comme musicien de studio d'enregistrement dans la même ville. Après son travail, Casey vient traîner au studio. Au bout d'un an, tous deux se mettent à écrire et à composer. Sous le nom de KC (la phonétique de Casey) & The Sunshine Band ils enregistrent "Sound your funky horn" et surtout "Rock your Baby", qui sera un triomphe mondial. Après "Get down tonight", n° 1 le 30 août 1975 aux Etats-Unis, le duo publie "That's the way, I like it", un succès mondial et un nouveau n°1 aux USA, le 22 novembre 1975. Ensuite le groupe s'embarque pour une tournée mondiale mémorable - Légende des tubes Vol 10
