Après le succès mondial de son premier album "La revancha del tango" (2001), Gotan Project était attendu au tournant. Si "Lunatico" conserve ce mélange d'électro et de tango, le trio argentino-franco-suisse a su éviter le copié-collé, notamment par la présence importante des voix : les rappeurs argentins de Koxmox, Cristina Villalonga, Juan Carlos Caceres, Jimi Santos, des samples de Carlos Gardel et même un Max Headroom version pampa sur "La Vigüela". Le bandonéon reste omniprésent mais les tambours, violoncelle, piano, guitare, ainsi que la présence de Calexico, offrent de nouvelles ouvertures à cette relecture du tango. Celle-ci s'achève ici sur le "Paris-Texas" de Ry Cooder, dernière pièce exquise d'un album réussi.
